Sandhill Launches Dimensional Modeling Concepts Workshop: 9/1/2009

Readers of our newsletter have known that ERwin has many talents. One of ERwin’s main talents is that of being used as the modeling tool of choice for building Dimensional Models for Data Warehouses.

Readers will also know that we have talked about developing course on dimensional modeling. In fact as we toured the USA and Canada, and speaking to our customers in the UK and Europe, we asked “if we built it would you come?” The answer was a resounding yes.

Well we have built our Dimensional Modeling Concepts class and are working hard to complete our Dimensional Modeling Fundamentals Class, which follows on from the Concepts class.

Again we have stayed with our one day structure and we have delivered our first Dimensional Modeling Concepts class in New York City to excellent review.

This one day work shop is the students’ first step in understanding all there is to know about Dimensional Modeling, and how to apply the techniques.

By the time students finish our one day workshop they will be able to understand and answer questions such as why Dimensional Modelling is different from traditional Data Modeling, and how they can apply Dimensional Modeling  techniques in developing modelling solutions for their organizations.

As noted earlier this workshop is the first in our Dimensional Modeling series of classes that will teach students not only the fundamentals of Dimensional Modeling within the overall warehouse architecture, but allow students to progress to the next level where they will also learn and use the skills necessary to analyse, design, develop and implement a Dimensional Model from re-stated business requirements. Our one day workshop provides the concepts necessary to understand what a Dimensional Model is and how it all ties in with various OLAP implementation styles.

The reviews for our NYC delivery of this class have been excellent.  Quotes like “Love the real world examples” to “I liked it all” and finally “Excellent class” lead us to believe that we have another complementary class to join our ERwin Academy of Education.

We are in the process of building a list of cities where we will be delivering these classes. Let us know if we can bring it to your city as a public offering to keep costs to a minimum.

If you believe that your company would benefit from Sandhill’s Dimensional Modeling Concepts and Dimensional Modeling Fundamentals one day classes please contact us via e-mail or via my cell phone.

Starting next quarter we will also add a Dimensional Modeling corner to our newsletter, and while we have our own ideas of what to write about, if our clients would like us to address any questions, please let us know.
