E-Learning Course: Data Provider Management

This course will benefit all medium-to-large organizations, as it addresses the end-to-end lifecycle of acquiring data, from determining what data set(s) is needed for a business purpose, selecting among internal sources, selecting external vendors, comparing vendor offerings, working with procurement/purchasing, reviewing contracts, working with the legal group, establishing service level agreements, managing vendor communications, and assuring the quality of the data product.

The intended audience includes business sponsors of analytics teams; owners/program managers for data repositories; subject-matter experts, data stewards, and IT professionals who need to integrate data, or are engaged in an application development or data acquisition effort.

The course is 60 minutes in duration. It emphasizes questions to be answered at each lifecycle stage and how to work proactively with procurement and legal. It addresses data catalogs and metadata and suggests policies, processes, and useful work products to ensure that the right data is selected, and foster efficiency across the organization. Furthermore, it is also ideal as preparation for assessing acquired data from an organization-wide perspective, e.g. ‘What are we buying?’ ‘Which data sources should be authoritative?’ and ‘How can we lower costs?’
