Enterprise Data Management Expert

[Prerequisite – Building Enterprise Data Management Capabilities]

The Enterprise Data Management Expert course is equivalent to a graduate seminar on how to assess data management capabilities, identify needed remediations, and develop a three-year roadmap of recommended projects to build and enhance the organization’s data management program. The class empowers individuals to be exceptionally prepared, confident and organized in their approach.

Since the course was first offered in 2015, each student has achieved high client satisfaction in their first engagement. The intended audience is experienced data management professionals, who are assigned to perform a precise and detailed evaluation of the current state of the data management program. The course presents the activity steps that ensure a comprehensive and auditable assessment:

•  Preparing the client organization
•  Assembling and preparing the team and key stakeholders
•  Leading facilitated workshops
•  Conducting executive interviews
•  Reviewing and evaluating work products
•  Scoring and interpretation
•  Identifying and describing proposed remediation activities
•  Evaluating organization factors impacting the data management program
•  Identifying and describing persistent data issues
•  Developing business cases for proposed improvement projects
•  Determining the optimal timing and sequencing of proposed projects
•  Developing and delivering a compelling executive briefing.

Employing a detailed case study, the first module of the course emphasizes program design and leadership, leveraging an in-class effort to develop an organization-wide data quality program for the case study organization. The second module explains the step-by-step assessment method. The depth and lasting value of the Assessment Report are highly appreciated by client organizations, and it is used as an implementation guide for enhancing their data management programs.
